Tim Cook: FBI Wants Apple To ‘Hack’ Your IPhone

A judge ruled Tuesday, that Apple must aid the FBI by hacking into one of the San Bernardino shooter’s IPhone. The problem is that “Apple doesn’t hold the keys to the shooter’s IPhone and the only way to break through an IPhone’s encryption lock is with a passcode, which isn’t stored on Apple’s servers.”

The FBI could guess the shooter’s passcode, but in order to prevent from erasing the content stored on the device “the judge said Apple had to provide reasonable technical assistance to help unlock the device.”

Tim Cook has written a public letter stating that “the government is asking Apple to hack our own users and undermine decade of security advancements that protect our customers.” “The same engineers who built strong encryption into the IPhone to protect our users, would be ordered to weaken those protections and make users less safe.”
