Obama Doubles Back On Afghanistan Withdrawal

President Barack Obama announced on Thursday he will prolong the 14-year-old U.S. military engagement, handing off the task of “pulling out troops to his successor.”

Obama previously aimed to withdraw military troops, accept a small force before his departure January 2017, however, under the new plan, troops will “be drawn down to 5,500 starting sometime in 2017.” “The stability of Afghanistan is vital to the United States, and Afghan troops who are now in charge of security are not yet as strong as they need to be, said Obama.” “If they were to fail, it would endanger the security of us all.”
